For the Dance Club, Oasis is the ultimate show time. The dance club participates in Street Dance and Choreo, two events in Oasis. It also organises Razzmatazz, a team event, which offers a lot of freedom in terms of style-picking and usually includes performances on Bollywood songs. Desert Duel, another event organised by the club, has solo performances in various styles.
The preparation for the Street Dance and Choreo routines began way back in the summer vacation. The club began to draft ideas for dances based on the theme of the upcoming Oasis – ‘Of Gods and Men’. The ideas were drafted over summer break and the club held auditions for fresh blood in the first fortnight after college started. It was then that the real preparation for competitions began.
Vishal Raj, the Dance Club coordinator, talks about how the club is trying to be consistent with the Oasis theme by preparing routines that relate to mythology. He also talks about how this year the club has recruited twice as many freshmen as they normally would due to the fact that a lot of seasoned members graduated last year. They are trying out a lot of new things this year, details of which, he says, will be revealed in due time.
Vishal says that being the coordinator doesn’t feel very different from being any other member of the club. But, with this new designation, the responsibilities on his shoulders have definitely increased. As the coordinator is held accountable for the entire club, he is doing his best to make sure that everyone stays on their feet and works hard for the upcoming fest. To make up for last year’s no-show at Choreo, this time Dance Club has gone all guns blazing this time; they’ve already been doing run-throughs for a while now. Seems like they’re going for the win and we wish them luck for all their events. Break a leg (not really)!
