The BOSM English Press sat down with Ansh Rastogi, the Captain of the Boys’ Swimming Team, to learn more about their preparations for BOSM 2023.
For this edition of BOSM, a variety of swimming event formats are set to take place, which would include fourteen different formats for boys and nine for girls. Owing to the lack of a functioning swimming pool in the BITS campus, the events will take place in two other swimming pools located in Pilani.
Ansh mentioned that the team bears the cost of using the swimming pool facility, which is situated 3 km away from the campus. He stated that their training regime required strong dedication due to their tough schedules—practice from 5:30 AM to 8 AM followed by a long day of classes, only to repeat it the next day.
Recalling his experience from previous editions of BOSM, he proudly stated that the boys’ team had defeated good swimmers from BITS Dubai and the girls’ team had triumphed over BITSoM Mumbai. However, he observed that the participation had been pretty low and hoped for it to change.
On being asked about his expectations for BOSM, he confidently said that the team would win a couple of gold medals. He added that he was aware of SRCC’s reputation from a previous state championship and intended to defeat them.
When asked about any message for fellow students and sports enthusiasts, Ansh encouraged everyone to try out for the sports that they were interested in. He acknowledged the disappointment of not being selected for a team but advised aspiring athletes to train, work hard, and be dedicated. On being asked about future prospects and goals of the swim team beyond the fest, he jokingly said it was to get a swimming pool.
