Handball

The BOSM English Press sat down with Arham, the Captain of BITS Pilani’s Handball team, to delve into their rigorous BOSM 2023 preparations.

Arham described handball as a captivating fusion of basketball, football, and ice hockey. At BOSM, matches will adhere to a condensed format of two 20-minute halves. Currently, they engage in evening practice matches, but the intensity surges a week before BOSM, with practice sessions twice a day.

Anticipation looms as they brace themselves to face formidable teams from Rajdhani College and Khalsa College. Arham voiced disappointment over the sport’s limited awareness, hoping their performance would ignite a spark of interest among students. Given its relative novelty on campus, the team encountered numerous challenges during their probationary phase. Arham commended the CoSSAc and the Sports Union for their support in surmounting these obstacles.

The team’s journey is punctuated by remarkable victories, notably securing gold against a national-level team from Birla Public School at BOSM 2022. Additionally, they took part in IIT BHU’s sports fest, Sparta, winning and losing a match each. To nurture talent and bolster participation, the team launched a camp, imparting the sport from the ground up to new batches of students. Among the fresh recruits are two national-level and one state-level player, infusing vigor into the team and fortifying their resolve to replicate last year’s triumph.

As they gear up for BOSM 2023, Arham’s message to his team and other participants is succinct: to play fair and give their best.
