The BOSM English Press sat down with Khushi Mittal, the Captain of the Girls’ Football team, to learn more about the team and their preparations for the fest.
Khushi explained that in the upcoming BOSM, girls’ football will be played with seven players on each side. Apart from the goalkeeper, they have six players who play in an ‘optimum formation’. The team also includes three to four substitute players, making a total of ten players in the squad.
Currently, in her third year of studying Civil Engineering, Khushi shared that her passion for football started at a young age when she used to play with her brothers. She was a part of her school football team as well.
Discussing the team, Khushi said that they currently have twelve people after seeing a good turnout during the recruitment process. Commending the juniors, she said that they were ‘really supportive, persistent, and attended practices.’
With over an hour of practice every day and additional morning practices on Sundays and holidays, Khushi stated that the team is practicing rigorously for the tournament. ‘Practice is really fun, so it does not feel like a burden,’ Khushi emphasized.
Talking about issues they faced, Khushi shared that in the past, the players did not take practice seriously and were not sincere. Additionally, they would not be able to practice on the main ground, as it would often be occupied by either the boys’ team or the GBM members. Thus, they were forced to play behind the ground or in the area where the Frisbee team typically plays. However, with the recent introduction of a coach, they have established a structured training approach and now practice on the ground.
Khushi disclosed that they were looking forward to competing with teams from Mody University and Kamala Nehru College. She added that ‘the team hopes to win at least one match’. Considering the limited competition, they aim to be the winners or the runners-up.
Providing insight on her experience as captain, she stated that it has been a wholesome journey. She highlighted that she has bonded well with the juniors and said that they are extremely supportive. Moreover, she mentioned that football helps her take a break from academics and has contributed to honing her decision-making abilities.
To conclude, she encouraged BITSians to attend the girls’ football games and to enjoy the fest.
