With BOSM right around the corner, the BOSM English Press sat down with Naman Jangira, the Captain of the Boys’ Athletics Team, for a quick chat.
In BOSM, athletics is classified into three broad categories: running, jumping, and throwing. The running events consist of short distances (100 m, 200 m, and 400 m) and long distances (800 m to 5 km). The throwing events include shot put, discus, and javelin, while the jumping events comprise the long jump, triple jump, and high jump. Moreover, there are also relay events.
Naman said that the training schedule remains the same year-round with changing intensities. He said that the team trains for six days a week, with Sunday being a rest day for recovery. He incorporates an 80-20 rule into training regimens, meaning that 80 percent of his workouts are easy in intensity while the remaining 20 percent are hard. He also mentioned the remarkable performance of the team in the previous edition of BOSM and is expecting a similar performance from the team this year.
When asked about recruitment, Naman said that the process was slightly different this year. He said that there were two rounds this time. The first round was a time trial where the top four to five individuals were selected. They were then put on probation and added to a group. Individuals who were committed and consistent and showed potential for improvement were also selected, as the team was only looking for people with dedication and discipline.
Talking about his past achievements, Naman shared that he was a middle-distance runner who had represented his school at the zonal level. He was a silver medalist in the 800 m event in the previous edition of BOSM. In addition, he expressed his enjoyment of leading the team and concluded by saying, “See you on the ground.”
