The BOSM English Press sat down with Shivam, the Captain of the Skating Club, to talk about the club’s preparations for the upcoming fest.

The Skating Club is organizing two events in BOSM 2023—Roll Ball and Speed Skating. Roll Ball can be described as ‘handball on skates’ and will be held in SAC. The players aim to score goals by coordinating and passing the ball while rolling on skates. Shivam expressed that it was ‘simple but brutal’. Speed Skating is a sprint race, the ring for which is under construction at Gym Grounds.

Currently, the team has been practicing every evening from 5 PM to 7 PM in SAC. Shivam felt that his experience as the Captain had been challenging. He added that fostering a new sport such as skating was a difficult task, citing issues such as the lack of a proper training regime, a training module, and a coach. 

While no major colleges play Roll Ball, the club has invited several academies to participate in BOSM 2023. He pointed out that the Rajasthan National Team, which had also participated last year, was an opponent worth looking out for.

Shivam shared that the 2023 batch had shown a renewed interest in skating, with over twenty new recruits joining the team. On a concluding note, he remarked that skating is a thrilling sport and encouraged BITSians to enjoy the fest and support the team.
