The BOSM English Press sat down with Prateek Kashyap, the Joint Coordinator of the Department of Visual Media (DVM) for BOSM 2023, to gain some insight into their initiatives for the fest and their preparations leading up to it.
Prateek mentioned that DVM traditionally developed the app and the website for the fest. For this BOSM they are introducing new features on the app and producing videos for the prof shows. Additionally, they will be rolling out cancellation forms for all the events to safeguard students from fake signings.
He acknowledged that one of the major problems for any fest is time constraints, especially considering the time software development consumes. Prateek emphasized that while there is no specific timeline apart from the fest dates, DVM works diligently to set strict deadlines for individual tasks. He also commended his juniors for their strong work ethic and for constantly exceeding expectations in various aspects.
When reflecting on his experience as the coordinator, Prateek expressed his fondness for the collaborative atmosphere people created within the department. He highlighted the exposure and learning opportunities he had gained as the coordinator and expressed his overall satisfaction with the role.
Regarding the evolution of the department, Prateek shared that DVM initially started out as just a small video team, hence the name ‘Visual Media.’ However, in recent years, they ventured into tech and have experienced exponential growth both in terms of scale and significance. Registrations and apps were two of the most needed things in a fest. He confidently asserted that no other tech club or team could manage fest operations the way they did.
When asked for a message to the GBM, Prateek encouraged first-years to attend the fest fully, noting that he himself couldn’t attend BOSM till last year because of COVID. He emphasized that fests are a cherished tradition and that the reason students made it grand is for the people attending them. He urged students not only to immerse themselves in department or club activities but also to venture out and have fun.
