With the preparations for BOSM in full swing, the coordinator of the Department of Sports, Publicity and Design, Rahul Verma, took some time out of his busy schedule and sat down with the BOSM English Press to discuss the department’s workings during the fest.
The five different verticals in the department handle tasks pertaining to design, content writing, and publicity, bolstering the department’s main focus of promotion of the fest. The Design team is responsible for creating posters, backdrops, and anything else posted on the BOSM media accounts. He added that although this year the Department of Publications and Correspondence was solely tasked with designing the BOSM logo, they have collaborated with them in the past for the same.
The Content team is tasked with writing captions, emails, spam messages, and blogs that are posted on the Sports Union website. The Photography team is charged with the coverage of the various sports matches during the fest and the creation of the “Aftermovie”.
The Video Editing team is also involved in creating the “Aftermovie”, in addition to the short videos posted on BOSM media handles. The newly formed Art and Decorations team is handling the creation of decorative physical structures similar to those seen during APOGEE and Oasis.
Alongside this, the department also ensures publicity for all the events and matches during the fest by regularly sharing notifications about them. Furthermore, the department is in charge of promptly updating the matches’ scores. He mentioned that this year, they were also considering sharing a summary of noteworthy matches at the end of each day.
Rahul stated that preparations for the fest began back in May, following a final round of recruitments, wherein they mainly worked with the Sports Union to finalise this year’s theme. Few teams utilised this time to prepare for the content they would be required to deliver. When asked about his experience as coordinator, he shared that it had been good, highlighting the intriguing nature of the work. He also commented on the various responsibilities of a coordinator, striking a contrast to his previous role in the Photography team.
On a parting note, he urged BITSians to attend BOSM and see the sports in person, reminding them that a lot of effort has gone into organising the fest.
