The Oasis English Press sat down with Sarthak Rawat, the coordinator for the club, for an interview about their role in Oasis ‘23.
The Creative Activities Club (CrAC) works throughout the year to create decorations and conduct events during the fests. Sarthak mentioned that CrAC will be arranging four main events — Galleria, Canvas Street, Splash, and The Giving Tree. The Giving Tree will be a new event created in collaboration with the Department of Sponsorship and Marketing.
Sarthak explained that Galleria is a Halloween-themed display of the club members’ artworks and is created specifically for the fest, while Canvas Street is a painting competition open to all. Splash is a face painting event where participants can get their faces painted by their friends or CrAC members. The Giving Tree is an activity sponsored by Cisco where attendees can leave notes about their experience at Oasis, which will then be hung up on a decorated tree outside the Faculty Division-2.
Sarthak described the process of creating artwork with the theme for Oasis ‘23, including the iconic letters spelling out its name and the pieces for Galleria, as a hard task. He commented that sticking to the theme of being creepy without being off-putting was a challenging task that the team had achieved perfectly.
On being asked about the club’s pre-fest preparations, Sarthak explained that their preparations mostly centred around creating the artwork to be displayed, starting with selecting the drawing to be made, sketching, drawing grids, and painting. To streamline this process, the club had implemented a ‘tree’ structure for organisation, with some first year members being supervised by a second year member, who was in turn supervised by a third year member. He added that the deadlines set so far for all their projects had been met, thanks to the helpfulness of the club members.
According to him, the main challenge that CrAC faces with Oasis is its proximity to BOSM. With only two working weeks between the fests to finish their tasks, members attend three hour sessions for two weeks. Sarthak expressed that despite the hectic schedule before the fest, it was ‘always fun to work for CrAC’.
Speaking about his experience as the coordinator, Sarthak said that the work had been very hectic and intensive, while also being enjoyable. He stated that his role and its responsibilities were something he had always wanted to have before graduating. Sarthak concluded by asking the fest attendees to enjoy themselves and to visit the galleria.
