The Oasis English Press reached out to Sanjana Jamuar, the coordinator of Dance Club (DC), to learn more about the troupe and its preparations for the upcoming fest.
DC will be organising two events during Oasis. One is Desert Duel, students from various colleges register on the spot and showcase their own dance form as a solo performance. The contest proceeds with the best dancers being selected to move forward in the competition, with the finals taking place at Rotunda. The other is Razzmatazz, a form-fusion dance competition involving various colleges showcasing their creative style. She added that apart from these programs, DC will also be organising a flash mob.
The club began their preparations a week after coming to campus this semester. However, the club has been preparing for the fest exclusively for the past two weeks, having extended their practice times by a lot. She said that they practised daily for five–six hours.
Touching upon her experience as the coordinator, she elucidated that she had gotten to interact with many more people beyond her team and how much she had liked it. She further elaborated that being a coordinator included organising events and managing the club. She was also responsible for ensuring that every member was comfortable with the tight practice schedule and was giving their all to the club. Going on, she narrated her journey in her first semester as very hectic and that one needs to ‘learn to go with the flow.’ She further described performing as “fulfilling” and “enlightening”, making all the time she put in worth it for her.
She clarified that while DC required “great commitment” from its members, that should not push people away from joining the club. She explained how the club had taught her to manage her time effectively and be more disciplined. She concluded by urging people with an interest in any form of dancing whatsoever to try out for the club, explaining that they would enjoy their time in the club like she had.
