The coordinator of the Safety and Medical Advisory Council (SMAC), Ajey Malik, took time out of his busy schedule for an interview with the Oasis English Press.
Ajey explained that SMAC is an Institute Body whose key role is to provide professional help in the case of any medical emergency. He said that they provide first aid and have paramedics on the scene during the fest.
Ajey mentioned that SMAC ensures that all the facilities on campus are satisfactory. He shared that the body took form after a tragic accident occurred to one of the students on campus. He remarked that, since its establishment, SMAC has followed the mantra of “better safe than sorry”.
Ajey added that SMAC also takes up initiatives like beehive removals throughout the campus. He stated that this Oasis, SMAC will be setting up medical stalls with paramedics, situated 24/7, to ensure the safety of the entire student body.
Elaborating on his experience as the coordinator, Ajey said that ‘the fun part’ was now over. He remarked, ‘being a coordinator was like stepping up into a ship of responsibility — attending and organizing hundreds of meetings with CMOs and faculty in charge, and being accountable for the entire association.’
In parting, he urged all the students to be responsible for their own safety and the safety of others. He stated that he is looking forward to an ‘exciting and safe fest’ and promised that, no matter the severity of the situation, SMAC would always be present to handle the situation.
