With Oasis 2023 just around the corner, the coordinator of Photography Club (Photog), Arnav Gupta, took some time out of his busy schedule and sat with the Oasis English Press to describe the events that Photog will be organising for the fest.
Arnav explained that Photog will be organising a total of five events, of which two will be held online. These events include a gallery that Photog organises every year, which this time would directly be linked to the theme of Oasis. Apart from that, the club will also conduct “Capture Oasis”, an event that has two categories – analog and digital, with a cash prize of INR 5000. The club will also be introducing two new events: “Retro Cam” and “Cyanotype”.
Talking about the new events of the club, Arnav mentioned that the signings for the “Retro Cam” event have been done and have already turned out to be a success. The event introduces the audience to a film camera and makes it accessible at a very cheap rate. The “Cyanotype” event allows participants to print anything on paper using sunlight and chemicals.
Arnav pointed out that the club had started planning for this edition of Oasis weeks before the fest. When asked about the problems that the club had faced, he emphasised that the small gap between the mid-semester evaluations and the fest posed a lot of issues.
Reflecting on his time in the club, Arnav said that the format for making panels for the gallery had gradually become more flexible for the people working on them, making them adjust and ideate more. He also mentioned that the club had started generating revenue during his tenure as coordinator. Arnav concluded by requesting that the fest attendees attend as many of their events as possible.
