The English Press Club interviewed Aryan Khorana, a candidate contending for the position of General Secretary.

Hailing from Uttar Pradesh, Aryan is a third-year student pursuing his bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering with a Minor in Finance. He previously stood for the Hostel Representative (HRep) position of Vyas Bhawan, but narrowly lost by five votes. Aryan believes that his strength lies in being a good speaker, and he strongly believes that speaking out is the key to bringing about meaningful change.

He explained that he had never intended to run for this role, but circumstances led him to change his mind. Coming from a family of doctors, he is particularly concerned about the medical facilities on campus and is committed to improving them.

When asked about his past initiatives, Aryan highlighted his contributions to the Academic Drives and the Makar Sankranti program, which he organized in collaboration with the Gurjari Association. His motto, he explained, is “accountability and availability,” values he aims to establish in the role. The driving force behind his candidacy, he explained, was that everyone should speak up for what they believe in.

Regarding the nature of political campaigning, Aryan noted that it has two sides: the positive, where legitimate campaigning occurs, and the shady side, where making connections is key. While he personally does not endorse the latter, he does believe it is an unfortunate necessity. He concluded by urging the General Body Members (GBM) to cast their votes, emphasizing that every vote matters. Having lost previously by just five votes, Aryan understands the importance of participation. He stressed the importance of voting, encouraging those who may not support any candidate to vote for NOTA (None of the Above).
