Tennis (Boys)- Yash Kothari

The BOSM English Press (BEP) reached out to Yash Kothari, the Captain of the Boys’ Tennis team, to learn more about the team and their preparation for the upcoming fest.

BOSM will feature singles and doubles events in a ‘round-robin’ pattern leading up to the semi-finals, followed by knockout matches. Talking about the team’s practice regimen, Yash informed that they have been training under a coach, every day from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM, starting with warm-up and drills, followed by rallies. They have been playing matches twice a week but will switch to daily matches in the week leading up to BOSM. They will also be increasing their practice timings.

The main challenge facing the team that Yash highlighted was the lack of courts on campus, as only two courts are available for the boys’ and the girls’ teams to use. Other than this, the team has ‘good resources’ as all the inventory had been ordered before BOSM.

Talking about the outstation teams, Yash shared that Ashoka College, IIT Delhi, and IIT Bombay will probably be participating this year, among other teams. Despite this, he feels hopeful for the team’s odds. He added that the team had won gold in the last edition of InterBITS. Sharing his journey as the captain, he stated that his views have changed over the months. Prior to becoming the captain, he did not think the role came with a lot to do. He added that he has since realised that a lot of management and leadership skills are required to ensure the team grows as a whole.

On a parting note, he added that the students should try out tennis as it is a ‘wonderful’ sport and they would really like it.
