With BOSM appearing closer as the days pass, the members of the Department of Informal Events have been hard at work from the comfort of their rooms or ANC. The BOSM English Press sat down with the department Coordinator, Nishit Singh, to gain insight into their working methodologies.

Nishit started by talking about the legacy of the department and gave a decade-long time window in which the department may have been founded. He revealed that Anti-Chess and Treasure Hunt had been the department’s legacy events, though Casino Night had also joined the fray now. He further added that the latter was his favourite event out of the bunch and started reminiscing about the good memories he made there in his first year before he had to be interrupted.

Nishit shared that this year, the department would be hosting a board games stall in GymG featuring popular games like Catan and Ticket to Ride. Alongside this, they would be organising Casino Night starting from the early hours of the night until the wee hours of the morning, for the first time in BOSM. When asked about the preparatory work required for the events, Nishit disclosed that it mainly involved having ‘creative sessions’ and time-consuming labour for Casino Night’s decorations. He further revealed that negotiating with vendors had been straightforward as the framework had already been laid for them by his seniors.

Talking about his experience as the Coordinator, Nishit noted that it had been very hectic but found learning about the inner workings of an event intriguing. He highlighted that the Treasure Hunt for juniors had been particularly draining but was now proceeding at breakneck speeds—with at least ten people in the pipeline. Later investigation by the BOSM English Press could not verify this claim. When questioned how the department had evolved over the years, Nishit simply nodded and said, ‘It has not’. He alluded to the charm of the perennial vibe amongst the department members.

It is at this point that Nishit interrupted the interview to talk about how much he loved the department and the people in it. He mentioned that since there is no non-fest work for the department, they often just hang out to appreciate tea, sugarcane and coke concoctions, and tea. On a parting note, he hoped for people to enjoy their events in BOSM.
