With Oasis just around the corner, Aryan Khorana, the General Secretary (GenSec) of the Students’ Union (SU), took some time out of his busy schedule to share insights about his role in organising the fest.
Aryan began by highlighting the shift in responsibilities that take place upon reaching a position like GenSec or the SU President. He explained that the managerial aspect of the fest was overseen by them, while the groundwork was done by the various clubs and departments. He stated that as the StuCCAn of Inventory for Oasis, he oversaw the inventory needs of all clubs and departments.
Aryan felt that the StuCCA could find better ways to divide their work when he was made aware of the inventory requirements during event pitching meets. He also added that he had been calling for meetings involving only the StuCCAns wherein they worked on individual matters to expedite the process. Opening up about the fest itself, Aryan informed that the college was hanging on to its legacy events, while expanding and introducing new ones. He added that his personal favourite was the Rage Room event, considering it an avenue to safely vent anger in a room by destroying various objects.
Coming to the artist line-up, Aryan stated that there was a ‘very fresh’ line-up planned, except for Seedhe Maut, who had been invited for a previous edition of the fest. He also stated that Oasis ‘24 would be re-introducing Mr and Ms Oasis, an event hosted by the Department of Informal Events, after a long hiatus.
When asked about the fest deductions, Aryan said that he doubted the possibility of Oasis taking place at all. He stated that he had been working to minimise expenditure wherever possible, while still catering to the vast financial demands of the fest. The money received from the deductions, alongside the sponsorships, went a long way in giving the SU the confidence needed to conduct the fest.
Aryan felt that the scale of Oasis had been growing exponentially every year, and he expected this year’s edition to follow the trend. He reported that Oasis had always been profitable as per his knowledge, and their goal this time was to at least reach a ‘no profit, no loss’ settlement by the time the fest ended.
Finally, he stated that he felt all the effort he had put into the fest had been worth it. He said that the difference he had made after assuming the responsibilities of office was enormous. He concluded by voicing his gratitude towards the GBM for being elected and being given the opportunity to do his best.
