American Society of Mechanical Engineers

With Oasis right around the corner, the Oasis English Press sat down with Veda Goyal, the Coordinator of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) to discuss their plans and preparations for the upcoming fest.

Veda shared that ASME planned to organise ATV Racing in Oasis ‘24. She explained that the event had previously received a positive response and generated profit when held during APOGEE ‘24, and that she expected an even better outcome this time. She believed that the event would also be getting repeated since it made sense from a cultural fest point of view. Veda explained that location can be integral in determining the success of any event, a factor that she thought might have affected them negatively during APOGEE. She added that they had been able to secure a more favourable spot this time.

Talking about their preparations, Veda stated that the work was usually supervising the venue and ensuring proper installation of floodlights since the event tended to continue past nightfall. She remarked that the major predicament that ASME faced, ‘much like most other clubs’, had been the budget cuts. Veda shared how burdensome it was to convince vendors to rent out the ATV Bikes at reduced prices with the budget limitations. However, considering the financial issues the Students’ Union was currently tangled in, she expressed her appreciation for them and their efforts.

Veda described her experience as Coordinator as revolutionising, despite being overwhelming at times. She elaborated on how it had allowed her to meet new individuals with different mindsets, ideas, and personalities and collaborate with them.
