The Coordinator of the Civil Engineering Association, Devansh, sat down with Oasis English Press, to talk about the association’s preparations for their first foray into Oasis.
The association would be conducting two events — Crack The Mystery Box and Safeguard Your Tower. The former would be a timed game with a memory-based component followed by a rapid-fire quiz to get clues to crack a safe. The top three participants would be awarded prizes in kind. The second event would involve two teams building towers out of cardboard boxes while attempting to knock each other’s towers down.
Devansh said that the association was usually involved in conducting events for APOGEE, but decided to step into Oasis this year with games to appeal to a wider audience. Their preparations began in July with multiple meetings to discuss the events to be conducted in the fest. He mentioned that the association was currently busy setting up the judging panel and sourcing materials for the event Safeguard Your Tower.
He shared that since the association had no past record of conducting Oasis events, one of the major hurdles they faced during the pitching process was to convince StuCCA of the profitability of their events. He explained that the events would not incur significant material costs, which enabled them to get the events approved, albeit with a limited budget.
On being asked about his experience as a Coordinator, he said it had been good attending meetings and dealing with all the budgeting and logistics. He believed the association should not stay limited to technical events and contribute to Oasis as well.
As a parting note, he urged BITSians to step out of their comfort zones and try something new like the Civil Engineering Association.
