Indic Club

With Oasis ’24 just around the corner, the Oasis English Press got hold of Subhro Roy, the Coordinator of the Indic club, to chat with him about this edition of the fest and the club’s preparations for the same.

Subhro mentioned that the club strived towards Indic revivalism. He explained that it was important to stay connected and in touch with one’s cultural identity and heritage. He further elaborated that the cultural sentiments and connectedness to the same had been deeply affected by centuries of foreign rule.

Talking of the events they organised, Subhro said that they were organising a pre-fest talk. The club has invited Ms Ami Ganatra, an author whose writings revolved around unravelling Indian epics such as Mahabharat and Ramayan. Apart from this they were hosting another event called Dyuta Krida, a board game that spanned across the timeline of mediaeval and ancient history. In addition to this, they would also host Cultural Charades and Chakravartin. The former, similar to the well-known Dumb Charades, would use various cultural and historical elements. On the other hand, Chakravartin would be a card game similar to Age of Empires.

Subhro mentioned that he and the entire team kept this year’s Oasis theme in mind while coming up with the events they wanted to host. His motivation behind incorporating the theme with the stalls was mostly to break the common misconception of the Indic club being open to only highly intellectual people. He wanted the stalls and other events to be as engaging as possible for the crowd.

When asked about his experience as Coordinator, he commented that he had a great time interacting with his club members and faced little to no challenges during the fest preparation. Furthermore, he hoped to see everyone enjoy and have a great time.
