The Oasis English Press (OEP) sat down with Kshitij Galande, the Coordinator of the English Language Activities Society (ELAS) to get some insight into the work undertaken by the club for Oasis ‘24.
Kshitij explained that ELAS is responsible for organising the different quizzes held during Oasis. This year, the club would be organising four quizzes, two of which — The Travel and Living Quiz and the India Quiz — would be conducted by the renowned quizmaster Aryapriya Ganguly. In addition, the Oasis Quiz, their flagship event, would be conducted by Major Chandrakant Nair.
He went on to share that their in-house quiz was organised by ELAS members, and the preparation for the same began two weeks prior to the fest. He noted that their final event, the Entertainment Quiz, organised in collaboration with the Department of Informal Events, centred around pop culture and modern-day entertainment. He further added that ELAS was also collaborating with OEP to organise a crossword solving event.
Kshitij explained that these quizzes consisted of two rounds, wherein the top six to eight teams from the preliminary round advanced to the final round. He mentioned that their work also included reaching out to quizmasters and making clues for the in-house quizzes. Kshitij shared that they did not face any major challenges, except some minor hiccups, which included managing the schedules of multiple quizmasters. He highlighted that the budget cuts this year affected the club since they initially did not have enough funds initially to call both the quizmasters. However, they found a compromise by reducing the prize money.
On a parting note, he said that he was satisfied with the people he had worked with. He urged everyone to attend the different events, highlighting that there was something for every taste and preference.
