Dear freshers,

BITS is not what it used to be.

The job market is more unforgiving than ever. AI tools like ChatGPT can write your assignment better than you and your instructor combined. Today, an average student profile feels like one of a LinkedIn influencer: everyone is either building a startup, authoring a research paper, or at least making it look like they are. Cutoffs for BITSAT have soared. Conversations that once revolved around mess food and evals now casually throw around words like ‘networking’, ‘internships’, and ‘cold emailing’.

It is a lot.

But for all the things that have changed, some things have not.

People still pull all-nighters for 8 AM tests. Rotunda is still full of enthusiastic freshers and overenthusiastic seniors in the first few weeks. Clubs and departments still lose their minds alike over fests. The clock tower still looms silently over the campus, as inaccessible as ever.

This issue sits somewhere in the middle of the extremes. You will find what you need to settle in: the hows, wheres, and whys. But you will also find pieces that reflect the bigger picture: the present, the changes, and what the future here might look like.

We hope there is something in here that you find useful.

Welcome!
To a BITS that is evolving.
To a BITS that is still exactly what it always was.
