A week remains for Oasis and a quick glance at SAC hall will reveal that it is bustling with activity. A number of students can be seen tirelessly working on panels and structures, their foreheads creased in concentration. The job of the Art, Decoration, and Publicity (ADP) department is self-explanatory—they are tasked with decorating the campus according to the theme of the fest as well as publicising it as much as possible. To gain more insight into their work, the Oasis English Press interviewed Aditya Pawar, the StuCCAn (and ex-CoStAAn) from the department.
On the art and decor side of things, ADP makes the Oasis backdrop, panels, structures and road decorations. They also make creatives, which are graphics that go into the live screens or led screens. Over the years, the department has been steadily increasing their output and now make four Audi panels and two side panels that are placed on either side of the Audi entrance. In keeping with the theme, the Oasis backdrop will be a portrait of Rorschach, a comic book character meant to represent noir. Incorporating neon turned out to be harder than anticipated especially for the Audi Panels as there was no space to put black lights. Considering the difficulty of implementing the same, the idea was scrapped. In addition to the customary backdrop and six panels, they will also be making three panels to accompany the new stalls at S-lawns.
Every year ADP places their Oasis structures in front of the Audi, FD-II entrance as well as circle, and this year is no exception. The central structure will be a setup , rather than a single piece, consisting of Miles Morales and Noir Spiderman from Into The Spiderverse. Another structure is a rather interesting take on the theme—the structure when viewed from one angle appears to be Batman, who represents noir, and when viewed from another angle appears to be the Joker, who represents neon. This particular structure was first rendered before being made, a technique that they have employed only once in the past. If time permits, the department also plans on making a 3-D car structure, which will act as a photo-spot, much like the hippie van structure made last year. Enhancing the mood of the fest are the various road decorations that adorn the road upto M lawns. These decorations are usually made by ADP or in some cases arranged for through some external sources. This year, the plan is to use a lot of neon lighting and increase the density of the road decorations.
The final responsibility under ADP’s jurisdiction is the publicity of the fest. Over the past few years, the publicity team has shifted focus to the Oasis Instagram page, which was setup in 2016. To increase publicity through the platform, the department has called influencers to come to campus to promote the fest. Old Delhi Films, an Indian YouTube channel, will also return this year, along with five other channels, to promote the fest. .
