As the members of the Department of Art, Design and Publicity (ADP) toiled inside the halls of the Student Activity Centre, the Oasis English Press spoke to Shrey Vanjani, the StuCCAn of ADP to get an overview of their work ahead of Oasis ‘24.
Shrey stated that ADP primarily has four verticals: Painting, Structures, Media, and Publicity. He elaborated that the first vertical prepared panels for the Main Auditorium, alongside other small panels put up across the campus throughout the year. The Structures vertical worked on decorative models, while the Media vertical was responsible for inviting judges and guests for various events. The Publicity vertical handled the social media pages and created word of mouth for the events.
Shrey elaborated that after Regal Roulette was decided as the theme of Oasis, they made a list of design elements they wished to incorporate, and finalized the color palette. From there, they included elements inspired by GTA Vice City, Miami beaches, retro designs and gambling rooms. Speaking of his experience as a StuCCAn, Shrey highlighted that managing all four verticals and attending the StuCCA meetings had been pretty hectic. Shrey believed that this could be the first time that ADP was projected to complete all their work two days before the fest commenced, and remained hopeful that everything would fall into place.
On a concluding note, Shrey wanted BITSians to understand that as the StuCCA, they have to collaborate with the Students’ Union and nearly 70 clubs for a fest of such magnitude. He added that he felt dejected by the comments he heard about event management and reaffirmed that a lot of his months had gone into the preparations. He ended by encouraging all BITSians to understand and involve themselves in the functioning of various clubs and departments as a task to get ‘many real life learnings’.
