Apna Adda

Apna Adda is the latest addition to the list of eateries available at C’not. In a short span of two months, it has become popular amongst BITSians for its large variety of momos and other delicious menu items. The English Press Club interviewed the person behind the venture, Anurag Kapoor.

Q: What is your background and how did you get the idea to start Apna Adda?

A: I am a native of Pilani, and I hold an MBA degree. While I was working for Accenture in Gurgaon, I used to eat a lot of momos. I was fascinated by the varieties available on offer. After two and a half years of working at Accenture, I moved back to Pilani and started working at SkyLab, which is owned by my father. Around this time, I started craving momos but couldn’t find any good places in and around Pilani, so, I got the idea to start Apna Adda to make a variety of momos available to the people of Pilani and BITSians.

Q: What kind of dishes does your menu cover and do you plan on expanding it?

A: The menu primarily includes momos. I’ve created a lot of different kinds of momos like tandoori, achari, etc. I designed the menu completely. The menu also includes tikkas and kebabs along with the momos. I want to expand the menu, but I’m short on space right now. I need to get a bigger space, something on the lines of Food King. When I do expand the menu, I’ll add more Chinese dishes along with some fusion dishes as well.

Q: How has the initial response been?

A: A lot of my customers have been Pilani locals who tried momos for the first time and loved it. The eatery has received tremendous response from BITSians and the place is full almost every evening.

Q: What was the idea behind posting memes on the Facebook page?

A: Since the eatery’s menu has been designed keeping the youth in mind, I wanted to market to them. So, the memes on the Facebook page were my attempt at digital marketing to gain traction.

Q: Do you deliver food around the campus?

A: Right now, I can deliver food only when there are fewer customers at C’not because of the shortage of staff. I’m trying to hire more people and will try to deliver food during the exams so that students don’t have to come out of their rooms.
