With mid semester exams ending and Dussehra around the corner, it was a dull evening at Food King when English Press Club met up with Vignyesh Bhatt, the coordinator of Astronomy Club. ‘Astro Club’ as it is called, is all set for Oasis.

This year, the club is organising two events: ‘Night’s Watch’ and an Astro-Photography Competition. The former is an annual Oasis event, and is going to be held on Day 0 and Day 1 of the fest. Students can expect to see Saturn and Jupiter, and if the night sky is clear enough, one can also see nebulae. The Astro-Photography competition is a new event which is supposed to be a collaboration between Photography Club and Astro Club.

Every year, the club internally comes up with a concept that is an overlap between the theme of Oasis and Astronomy. This year it is ‘Cosmic Nihilism’. “It is basically a thought that our human lives are inconsequential as compared to the scale of the universe”, elaborates Bhatt. He also mentions the difficulty in finding common ground with counterculture and admits that this was the major reason that their usual quizzing event has been dropped this year.

Due to lesser events, the work load is less this time. Most of the preparations are supposed to start after students return from the mini Dussehra break and Bhatt expects work to be wrapped up in a week or so.
