Badminton (Girls) – Anishka Singh

The BOSM English Press sat down with the Captain of the Girls’ Badminton Team, Anishka Singh, for a quick chat regarding the upcoming sports fest.

When asked about her experience as the captain, Anishka commented that getting the responsibility has been a ‘great feeling’. It has brought her closer to the boys’ and girls’ team members. ‘I have bonded even more with my Vice Captain, my juniors and also my batchmates in the team,’ she added. Managing academics and sports have been an uphill battle for her, but her love for sport has enabled her to keep striving for success.

Several teams from colleges in New Delhi will be taking part in the sports meet. With two to three sports quota teams—teams made up of students who are granted admission to college taking their sporting talent into account—expected to participate in the tournament; the BITS team expects good competition. ‘But I’m pretty confident that we can take on any team,’ commented Anishka. With BOSM right around the corner, team practice has been in full swing with daily morning and evening practice sessions.

For BOSM 2022, there will be various badminton events. For the women’s team event, each team will comprise three to four playing members, with the best of three matches being considered—two singles and a doubles. The mixed team event will include a men’s and women’s singles match, a men’s and women’s doubles match, and a mixed doubles match. Each team entered by a college must have between six to eight playing members, with a minimum of three female and three male players.

Anishka mentioned that her interactions with the CoSSAc and institute authorities have been smooth, and she has yet to face any difficulties. She also added that the PCr BOSM Coordinator for badminton has been adjusting and is open to suggestions.

As her parting message for the students, Anishka hopes that they would participate in the team selections and play a sport rather than holding the preconceived notion that they are not skilled enough—especially with the girls’ teams, where she has seen disproportionately less participation over the years.
