With preparations for BOSM underway, the BOSM English Press approached Vedant Sista, the Captain of the boys’ basketball team, for a quick chat on the team’s preparations for the fest.
When asked about the team’s practice routine, Vedant mentioned that they trained twice a day. He explained that the morning sessions were primarily fitness-oriented, lasting from 6:00 to 7:30 AM, while the evening sessions were dedicated to both fitness and skill, often stretching beyond two hours. This rigorous schedule, he added, was essential to match the level of other teams that played competitive basketball throughout the year.
Reflecting on the team’s performances in recent years, Vedant proudly recalled that the boys’ basketball team had won a bronze medal in his first year, ending a nine-year medal drought at BOSM. Last year, they had gone one step further, securing silver after an eleven-year gap, and also clinched bronze at IIT Ropar, which was their first outstation medal in over a decade. With this steady upward trajectory, Vedant shared that the team was determined to push for gold this year.
Speaking about the competition, Vedant highlighted Hansraj College, Manipal University Jaipur, IIT Delhi, IIT Roorkee and Delhi University teams as major rivals, adding that matches against some of these teams had always been closely contested. He also noted that the introduction of a B-team this year would give more players the chance to gain experience and exposure on court.
Vedant also discussed the challenges leading up to BOSM. He admitted that adapting to a new coach’s style had been an adjustment for the team, and keeping every player consistently motivated through the packed practice schedule had tested his leadership.
When asked about his experience as Captain, Vedant described it as transformative. He explained that while earlier he would approach the game with an individual mindset, captaining the team made him view basketball through a broader lens, with responsibility for the growth and morale of every member.
On a parting note, Vedant expressed confidence that the effort and discipline the team had shown in training would reflect in their performance. He urged the students to come out in large numbers to support the team.
