With BOSM around the corner, Sanjana Patil, the captain of the basketball team, continues to give her best to prepare the team for their upcoming matches. In her interview with the BOSM English Press, she shares her thoughts on the team’s journey so far.
Sanjana, a fervent lover of basketball, firmly believes that it is the dedication to the sport that helps her maintain her usual sang-froid through all the practice sessions. The team has fourteen members, including some highly seasoned fourth years, whose experience and wisdom have proved to be of great importance. They have a regime of practicing for two hours during evening, plus one hour of training sessions at morning to work on their stamina and physical development. She says, ‘The enthusiasm shown by the first years has contributed greatly to establish and maintain such a remarkable training schedule.’ This year, in addition to the drills, the team has also been focusing on playing exhibition matches with other teams to improve stamina and coordination. ‘Our coach motivates us a lot and discusses various possible lines of play and improvements after each game. That allows us to look at each match as a unique learning experience,’ says Sanjana.
When asked about the major opponents this year, Sanjana was quick to reply, ‘IIT Delhi and SRCC. We’ve faced these teams before, and they’ve given us a hard-fought game each time.’ However, the captain believes that victory for the team would be a total slam dunk if all the players continue to maintain their dedication and regularity.
Apart from the basketball matches, Sanjana is looking forward to witnessing the competitions in athletics, football, and volleyball. She hopes that her team performs up to the mark and their hard work pays off. ‘We’re gunning for the gold!’, she says with a smile, and one can only hope that they do achieve their goal, with BITSians cheering them along the way.
