Basketball (Boys)- Harnoor Singh

With preparations for BOSM underway, the BOSM English Press approached Harnoor Singh, the Captain of the Boys’ Basketball team, for a quick chat on the team’s preparations for the fest.

When asked about the team’s routine, Harnoor stated that the team practised twice daily, from Tuesday to Sunday. The morning practice session is geared towards fitness and is almost two hours long. The evening practice session is when the team works on their game, which is usually more than three hours long.

Reflecting on the team’s previous outings, Harnoor mentioned that they participated in one of the sports tournaments at IIT Bombay two years ago. They also participated in the competitions held at IIT Roorkee and Bennett University last year. He remarked that during the previous edition of BOSM, the boys basketball team had quite a successful run, ending their nine-year medal drought by beating IIT Delhi and winning the Bronze medal.

When asked about the competition during BOSM 2024, Harnoor highlighted Kirori Mal College and Hansraj College—both in Delhi—as significant rivals. Harnoor remarked that they have had quite the history with both of these colleges, and so far, their opponents have managed to get the better of them.

Harnoor then spoke about the challenges the basketball team had faced in the weeks leading up to BOSM. He stated the basketball rim at the court was quite loose. However, he is confident that it will be repaired before BOSM. Another issue Harnoor faced was motivating all the members of the team to regularly show up for practice. He highlighted that it was difficult to bring all the members of the team to a mindset where they had to put in long hours every day on the court while managing their academic workload.

Harnoor described the experience of leading the basketball team as quite rewarding. He mentioned that earlier, he used to think of himself as an individual as a part of the team. However, now that he is the captain, he thinks about the entire team as a whole.

On a parting note, Harnoor urged the students to come to the courts to show their support for the team, as they have put in a lot of effort preparing for the upcoming tournament. He concluded by stating his motto for the team, which is ‘When our mind feels like we cannot go any further, in reality, we have only given 60 percent of what we can give, and there still is 40 percent of untapped potential.’
