Biology Association

The English Press Club recently spoke to Akshat Jain, the APOGEE coordinator of the Biological Association. In a short but crisp interview, Akshat talked about the four events that the association is planning for the fest this year.

Their flagship event involving prize money is Murder Mystery, a treasure hunt game in which players go around the campus collecting clues pointing towards the Murderer. During previous years, this game was played in a single room and the clues were in the form of a quiz, but this year a new and improved version has been planned.

The Bio Assoc also has an event geared towards nature enthusiasts called ‘Nature Walk’ where participants take a walk around campus, click photos of various species of plants and animals, and name them. The Assoc has obtained a list of species of plants and animals on campus from the Biological Sciences Department and the participants will be judged using the list as a yardstick.

Another event incorporating the theme of APOGEE—’The Encrypted Dimension’—is ‘Code it Out’ where players will have to solve a code and will be rewarded accordingly. The last event, ‘Dexter’s Lab’, is a collaboration with the Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Associations in which players will perform lab experiments to find clues and get to the result. ‘Dexter’ is trapped in an alternate dimension and those clues will help him get out.

In addition to these four events, they also planned a demonstration involving microbial growth using electricity and mud water. They contacted the Heads of Department of the relevant laboratories for all the laboratory-related events.

Their team of 30–40 members were in the final stages of planning. Even though the transition between offline and online modes has been difficult for his team, with nobody having seen an offline APOGEE, Akshat believes in their ability to execute events well. He mentioned that the Biological Association has hardworking members who will continue to do a great job and that preparing for this fest was a fun experience for him.
