The BOSM Review Meet started at 7 PM after the usual BITSian delay, most of the members of the Committee of Students for Sports Activities themselves showing up well after 6 PM. The meet started with a vote on the addition of the probation clause. The clause states that before a body is removed from the BOSM charter, their performance will be reviewed over a two-year period and a vote will be taken after each fest on the position of the organisation. If they manage to pass two votes, they will be taken off probation and will continue to function normally. The vote went in favour of the amendment, with a simple majority. What followed, during the next four hours, was a blame game, the main players being the CoSSAcns.
The meet began with a review of the sports teams. The problems faced by the teams and any complaints made against them were addressed. Although some team representatives failed to show up, most of them were represented by at least one member. A common grievance that the teams had was with the inventory; the items provided to them were of inferior quality or were insufficient in quantity. Some team captains even relayed the problem of poor living conditions of the outstation teams. The carrom, girls’ football, girls’ tennis, and hockey teams called out the Department of Publication and Correspondence for not bringing in a good level of participation; the department said that this was due to low prize money for those events. The Sports Council said that the prize money would increase only with the participation while the Department of Publication and Correspondence maintained that it was vice-versa.
The powerlifting team and the boys’ volleyball team were discussed in length due to their questionable actions during BOSM. Due to incorrect estimations, BOSM Controls ended up with fewer trophies than the actual number of winners during the valediction ceremony. Hence, powerlifting was overlooked and ended up with no trophies, the runner-up not having received one either. The BITS team was given twelve medals instead and claimed to have been questioned by BOSM Controls as to why they got six more than what they asked for. A member from BOSM Controls claimed that some members from the team went on stage and threatened him while inebriated. The powerlifting team admitted to being slightly intoxicated. The volleyball team, on the other hand, was reprimanded for using the Department of Reception and Accommodation (RecNAcc) mattresses to clean up their court. They also tried to contact a sponsor on their own which was a clear breach of protocol, as BOSM Sponz is supposed to handle all such matters. The team’s actions caused BOSM Sponz’s negotiations with the same company to fall through.
The meet then went on to discuss the clubs and minor departments affiliated with the fest. Recurring issues which were raised were the poor positioning of stalls and delay in supply of inventory by RecNAcc, which led to many events being delayed, sometimes by up to two days. During the club reviews, Gurukul took the opportunity to mention that the BOSM English Press’ coverage of the Inauguration Ceremony was incorrect and went on to say, ‘If you don’t know shit about music, don’t say shit’. This statement was received with a round of applause by the gathering.
One of the discussions that stood out was the review of Coding Club. As soon as the coordinator listed out the work that the club had done, the CoSSAcns rushed in to point out the multiple problems that they observed with Coding Club’s work. BoCo pointed out that there were severe flaws with the backend, making the task of updating fixtures a monumental one for them. Sponz said that the club took too long to integrate the payments system by PayTM on the registration website. The CoSSAcn from PCr then went on to list out all the problems that he and the CoSSAc had observed – the first and foremost being the mishap with the PCr database. The CoSSAcn of PCr said that they had deleted all the data the department had built over the years. Apparently, this had happened when the databases were being transferred from the Department of Visual Media (DVM) to Coding Club. Another problem was the delay in bug fixes for the app and website, even after being intimated well in advance. The video editing team was also unable to make the changes requested of them. The last issue that was raised was about the invitation mail to the Inauguration which was delivered to some students twelve hours after the ceremony had concluded.
The Department of Photography had a prolonged conversation with the Sports Financial Committee about how transactions work with the institute, with both sides reiterating the same points for a few minutes and making no progress. This conversation arose from an issue that DoPy raised, saying that the delay in payments by SFC would hurt DoPy in subsequent fests. The department also went into a long conversation with the CoSSAc about ‘not showing them the memes’. The design for the DoPy diaries that had been shared with the CoSSAc did not contain the memes that were included in the final printed ones. The entire discussion concluded with both agreeing that DoPy would show the CoSSAc all the memes. The Department of Live Events was reprimanded for the vulgar content that Prashasti had in her performance, even after it was agreed upon that this should not happen. DLE responded by saying they had gone over the terms with her but, in the heat of the moment she must have resorted to that content to deal with the heckling. The CoSSAc also brought up the fact that the songs that were played during audio check before the live performances were obscene and ‘created irreparable damage’ to BOSM in the eyes of the professors attending.
The last segment of the meet dealt with the CoSSAcn departments. BOSM Controls passed without much to say other than the few issues that had already been raised earlier in the meet. BOSM Sponz gave out a few statistics about the revenue generated. A total of fourteen lakhs was collected out of which 9.85 was from sponsorships—the highest ever—and the rest from the food stalls. The Department of Publication and Correspondence stated that they had brought a record-breaking 1500+ participants to the fest. The PCr CoSSAcn made it a point to thank DVM for every bit of help they provided. However, after a certain point, the frequent special mentions began to seem odd to the GBM.
RecNAcc was discussed at length, considering that many had brought up issues with stalls, inventory, and accommodation. The rest of the CoSSAc agreed that the CoSSAcn of RecNAcc couldn’t be contacted at many points during the fest and that others had to take decisions on his behalf. PCr mentioned that several colleges including IIT Delhi had blacklisted BOSM due to the poor living conditions. RecNAcc responded by saying that BOSM had a hard limit of 1400 and accommodating the 1500+ was difficult. They said that in a last-ditch effort, they approached the Institute for more space, but their appeal had been rejected. When the entire CoSSAc met the administration, the Institute initially granted their request, but eventually backed out.
The meet concluded with the CoSSAc thanking DVM for their contribution. The Sports Secretary announced that DVM would now be working for the fest, however no amendment would be made to the charter. The BOSM Review Committee ended four-and-a-half hours after commencing, to a relatively dull ending as compared to past fest review committees.
