The Pilani campus houses over 5000 students, 350 faculty members and their families, and many support personnel. Spread across 328 acres, it has all the facilities and buildings typical of a renowned technical institute. The campus is systematically divided into multiple academic blocks, each housing numerous lecture halls, classrooms, and laboratories.
Nestled within a beautifully landscaped area below ground level, the New Academic Block (NAB) is designed to be spacious and comfortable. Each classroom is centrally air-conditioned and equipped with modern educational tools, including computers, projectors, screens, and speakers. The Lecture Theatre Complex (LTC) is a cluster of lecture halls equipped with advanced audio-visual aids, facilitating smooth and effective delivery of lectures to large student audiences. The campus also has numerous laboratories across different disciplines, each with cutting-edge technology and equipment. These labs provide practical learning and research support to the various departments on campus. In addition, the mechanical workshop facilitates hands-on training and practical experience in various core engineering disciplines.
One of the campus highlights is its impressive library complex, which spans 65,000 square feet and houses around 230,000 volumes of books and manuscripts. It features 738 open-access study spaces and 246 open-access IT workstations. The library’s extensive collection exceeds half a million items, encompassing approximately 3,000 current journal titles, over 20,000 electronic resources (including databases, journals, and e-books), and a significant media collection of CDs and DVDs. The library’s online catalogue allows easy access to these resources. Additionally, the campus boasts the state-of-the-art Information Processing Centre (IPC) labs to meet the broader computational needs of all students.
The campus is fully residential and provides hostel accommodation for all students. There are thirteen boys’ hostels and a dedicated hostel complex for girls. All hostels are equipped with internet connectivity, water purifiers, and water heaters and provide fully furnished rooms. Each hostel has a QT for sports like cricket, volleyball, and badminton. The common rooms offer television, vending machine facilities, and indoor games like table tennis and foosball. Each set of two boys’ hostels shares a mess unit, while the girls’ hostel has its separate mess. Redis are eateries located within the vicinity of the various bhawans on campus. These redis provide a variety of options anytime one wants a quick snack, a break, or a place to sit down and spend time with friends.
The campus offers a comprehensive range of sports and recreational facilities. The Student Activity Centre (SAC) is a hub of activity, with facilities for badminton, tennis, table tennis, squash, and boxing. The gymnasium in the SAC offers aerobics, cardio, and weight training equipment. Students can also practise yoga and taekwondo. The campus also houses a (mostly inoperational) swimming pool for swimming and water polo. The GymG has fields and courts for football, basketball, hockey, volleyball, as well as track and field sports. The MedC ground, located adjacent to MedC (as the name suggests) serves as the campus cricket ground.
The newly renovated campus auditorium features modern sound and lighting systems, and hosts seminars, guest lectures, cultural events, and performances. Right outside the auditorium, the Rotunda is an amphitheatre, with galleries for small gatherings, discussions, and informal meetings.
The in-house medical centre (Med-C) provides free medical services, with physicians, along with an ambulance at all times. The BITS Cooperative Store, Akshay, offers groceries, stationery, clothes, sports equipment, and more at subsidised rates. Situated close to the store, the Shivganga Market (popularly known as C’Not), provides additional amenities, including salons, general stores and a pharmacy, ensuring students have easy access to daily necessities.
The All Night Canteen (ANC), Food Ministry (FM), Looters, and Sky Lab are the popular food outlets that offer a range of cuisines and stay open until well into the night. C’Not restaurants such as Sharma Ji’s, Pandey Ji’s, and Al-Cafe Delight offer further dining options, catering to both vegetarian and non-vegetarian taste buds.
Jawed Habib, a renowned salon, is available on campus, offering grooming services to students and staff. The campus also includes essential services like postal services and ATMs.
