With the Students’ Union (SU) Elections 2025-26 just around the corner, the English Press Club (EPC) sat down with presidential candidate Daksh Tyagi for a short interview.
Daksh is a third-year student pursuing a Master’s in Economics alongside a Bachelor’s in Manufacturing Engineering. Explaining why he was contesting for President, Daksh said he believed the role was to provide ‘financial accountability and transparency’, while representing the students both inside and outside the campus.
Outlining his immediate plan of action if elected, he explained he would first work on ensuring ‘basic amenities’ for students, such as installing sheds at All Night Canteen (ANC) and Food Ministry (FM) to provide shelter from the rain. He underscored his vision for financial transparency by aiming to stop fake signings under the Union. He also mentioned plans to conduct hackathons, case competitions, and ‘financial talks’ in collaboration with various clubs to help students develop their skillsets. He proposed adding new minor programmes in fields like quantitative finance, cloud computing, and product management.
When asked what he would change about his predecessor’s tenure, Daksh stated that while he considered the current President to be quite hardworking and a good fit for the post, he would be more ‘bold and fearless’ in comparison. He cited examples of recent protests regarding the attendance policy and believed that they did not yield any results, but would have if they had been sustained for multiple days.
When asked about rumours involving him bribing juniors with alcohol to join his campaign, he rejected the allegations and said that they were completely false, as he himself abstains from such substances. He added that such allegations were a part and parcel of standing for such a post and condemned them.
Daksh went on to elucidate various initiatives he worked on as part of his one-month tenure in the SU Executive Committee. These included organising a ‘UPSC Talk by IPS Mridul Kachawa’, Looters Delivery Service, consolidating academic resources across batches, and collaborating with Your-Space to provide affordable housing to students during their Practice School. He added that working on these helped him develop his negotiation skills.
As a final note, when asked why students should vote for him, Daksh said most people had faith in him because he could easily connect with them. He believed that they trusted him to bring about change as President, and that continues to be his motivation.
