Candidate Interview: Sahaj Dwivedi

The English Press Club interviewed Sahaj Dwivedi, one of the four candidates standing for the post of President in the upcoming Students’ Union (SU) Elections.

Sahaj, a third-year student, has been an active part of a few initiatives that were taken to benefit the GBM. Running for Presidency was no spur-of-the-moment decision, as Sahaj emphasised during the interview. According to him, it was a journey that demanded careful consideration and an effort to become more approachable.

Sahaj’s manifesto was made after extensive consultations with various stakeholders, such as students from all batches and key campus figures like the Chief Warden. He claims to have prioritised issues based on their significance and the number of students affected by the changes he aims to make.

During his tenure as the Hostel Representative of Shankar Bhawan, he established a newspaper stand and facilitated the availability of sports equipment. He also played a role in managing the logistics of the Students’ Union (SU) cab services and the courier services tailored to help recent graduates transport their belongings. He aided students academically by preparing the “Academic Insider” and the “Sophomore Study Guide”, both of which were widely used sources of information for the batch of 2022.

He plans to initiate a review of the fee structure and believes that the fee increments mandated by the institute are not justified. Sahaj anticipates potential challenges, including managing and organising Oasis within a tight timeframe of just around a month, should he be elected President.

Sahaj’s priorities, as he explained, involve upholding transparency, and a commitment to honesty and efficiency. He plans to hold regular town hall meetings with the GBM and open the Students’ Union (SU) office for designated periods in order to foster open communication. He is confident that he will be able to solve all the problems mentioned in his manifesto, and he aims to do so within the ongoing semester. He intends to implement good points from the manifestos of other candidates upon the completion of his own manifesto too.

He concluded by urging the GBM to thoroughly read through the manifestos of all the candidates and assess their individual track records. He encouraged everyone to attend the Auditorium Debate, and emphasised on the importance of every individual casting their vote in order to contribute to a promising future for the institute.
