Nishant, the Chemistry Association coordinator, took a break from work to talk to the APOGEE English Press about the Chemistry Assoc’s work for APOGEE 2023.
The Chemical Association typically hosts its kernel event, ‘Whodunnit’, each year, which has attracted over 900 participants in the past editions of APOGEE. This year, however, they will also be organising ‘Triene Our Best’ — a brand new event in which the participants will get a full open-lab experience. It will include numerous chemistry-based activities, such as a rocket launcher with chemical thrust, a colourful smoke experiment, a liquid gold reaction, and others. When discussing event preparation, Nishant said they have completed all lab reactions and are ready to tackle this new and exciting assignment.
As usual, the Chemistry Assoc has put up several forensic kits and clues to give their 2-day flagship event “Whodunnit” an authentic and personalised atmosphere. This competition’s first day will test teams’ analytical and investigative skills. On the second day, qualifying teams will receive the tale and pointers to a campus-wide treasure hunt where they will discover the final culprit.
Nishant shared that he has had a great time as the coordinator. He mentioned that he routinely meets with the CoStAA to review the EPM, budget, and inventory for the Pre-APOGEE project, and that they have been quite helpful.
Before concluding, Nishant stated that he believes people have preconceived notions about subject associations and that people think they don’t do anything exciting. He encourages them to see how the planned events have practical relevance. He hopes this fest is a big success and is proud of everyone who has and will continue to contribute to the Chemical Association.
