The Oasis English Press sat down with Omkar Gaikwad, the Coordinator of the Chemistry Association, to learn more about the work they were doing for the upcoming fest.
Omkar explained that for the last three years, the association had held an event called High On Helium. As helium alters the pitch of one’s voice, hilarious effects could be observed when people inhale the gas, which Omkar referred to as a way of integrating chemistry and fun. He revealed that leading up to the days of the fest, most of the association’s effort was channeled towards arranging the helium cylinders. These cylinders last for two years and this year would need a replenishment in preparation for the event. Omkar also pointed out the incorporation of the theme in their event. They made decorative pieces and planned to add cartoons and integrate it with poker this time around.
When asked about challenges faced by the association, he stated the budget to be one of the main difficulties. The association was forced to half the volume of helium they used to work with to fit their budget. While the Chemistry Association had collaborated with clubs like Karaoke Club and ComHub in the past, Omkar informed that this time their event would be a standalone one.
Speaking on his experience as a Coordinator, Omkar said that he enjoyed working with the juniors who he commended on being ‘really good at their work’. When asked what made him a good Coordinator, he mentioned the treats he handed out after work sessions along with knowing his team and not putting too much pressure on them.
On a concluding note, Omkar urged everyone to ‘exploit’ the fest as it was one of the times when the campus was really alive and encouraged everyone to attend their event.
