The English Press Club (EPC) sat down with Prof. Rajesh P Mishra to discuss his vision and tenure as the Chief Warden of BITS Pilani. One of his main objectives is to provide equal opportunities to all students and ensure that they have a level playing field. He mentioned that he also plans to eradicate substance abuse, and implement rules and regulations which enable students to develop good habits and a healthy lifestyle.
He mentioned that regulations would be strictly implemented to maintain order and prevent any mishaps. He mentioned that one of the most challenging aspects he might face as the Chief Warden would be his connection with the students. He emphasised that after the COVID-19 pandemic, people’s behaviour and thought process has changed significantly. There is a huge gap to bridge, and efforts will be made to understand the new generation’s aspirations, acknowledge the change in culture and carry forward the legacy of the institution.
When asked about the disciplinary guidelines he intends to implement during his tenure, he said that the current guidelines are extensive and sufficient, and ragging will be prevented by strictly implementing directives provided by the UGC (University Grants Commission) and the relevant authorities. There will also be precautionary inspections and regular monitoring. On further inquiry about his plan to eradicate substance abuse, he added that it would be futile to enforce harsh measures and expect a sudden change in thought process. Gradual steps will be taken to find out the areas of improvement and solve the matter.
He added that he was approachable to all the students and that he would make time to communicate and understand their concerns. He also added that an online portal would be created for the students to express their grievances if any.
