Saksham Gupta, an unassuming third year, has a rather important post –the BOSM Coordinator of the Coding Club. Out of the club’s four major divisions, namely, competitive coding, game development, app development, and web development, the latter two play major roles in BOSM.
The club’s most important responsibility, is the creation of the BOSM Roulette app, which aids both BITSians and outsiders in keeping track of the various events taking place. According to Saksham, the new app has been built over the last three months, and includes many new features. The app will contain the portal for its namesake – the virtual betting game. Users may choose events for which they receive notifications, thereby removing the clutter of unnecessary notifications.
As opposed to last year, where the schedules, events, and results were simply listed in Excel sheets, the club has created proper databases this time, which will store and display the relevant data in a better format. Yet another change incorporated is the creation of separate portals for separate events. The highlight of the app, however, is the live-scoring section. Collaborating with the Hindi Press Club, they plan to cover a few of the popular matches in real time through the app.
The new app, Saksham says, is more structured, and looks better. Creation of the app however, does not end their job. It will require maintenance and will have to be updated throughout BOSM, as per the need of the hour.
The club also organizes an online quizzing event called Sportzilla. It is a pre-BOSM event, and will be online for a few days. The questions, made by the newly recruited members will be on a variety of topics, not limited to sports. Owing to the large participation in the event last year, they have been working harder on the level of questions and the User Interface (UI). The quiz is almost entirely designed from scratch, as the development of the UI is an excellent learning experience for the second years in the club.
Apart from BOSM, the club will conduct various events in other fests. They will also conduct workshops and training sessions for juniors throughout the year.
About his experience as coordinator, Saksham says, “It has been a great experience. I got the opportunity to interact with different members of the CoSSAc and the HPC. It’s a nice feeling to know that we are working on something for the betterment of BITS.”
