With less than 2 weeks remaining for Oasis, Aman Kumar, Oasis coordinator for Coding Club, is already excited in anticipation of what is to come. After having undertaken the task of managing all technical aspects of BOSM 2018, Coding Club is presented with yet another challenge- to organize events in a cultural fest being a technical team itself!
‘Yes’, Aman says, ‘It is a challenge for us, but being coders, it is our job to solve problem statements. This is yet another problem statement, for which we have already found a solution.’ Last Oasis, Coding Club had prepared a Kinect-based ‘Infinite Runner’ game, wherein one could choose be either Goku or Thor, and run around the BITS campus, dodging obstacles in the path. This year, it has even better events lined up. A web-based mystery solving event would be organized before the fest, wherein participants would have to search for objects hidden inside the game environment. Apart from this, Coding Club is working on a virtual reality game called ‘Tripped’, which is based on counterculture. Within the game, many hipsters attack a concert, and as a punk musician, the player’s job is to save the concert by shooting hippies with lethal notes using your guitar. The Game Development team and Web Development team have put in consistent efforts to convert this idea into reality.
‘We work till 12 or 1 every night, and as Oasis nears, we will definitely be pulling off some all-nighters,’ says Aman, with a confident smile on his face. Being the Oasis coordinator, he has a lot of responsibility on his shoulders. Managing a huge pool of club members, allotting tasks to them, and being responsible for all issues isn’t an easy task. However, Aman seems to handle the pressure with ease, and is quite confident that the club’s efforts will pay off and result in a successful Oasis. ‘Code for passion, not for placements,’ he says, as he bids the English Press adieu.
