The BOSM coordinator of Coding Club, Subhanjan Saha, recently spoke with the BOSM English Press about the activities of his club in the upcoming fest.
One of the major responsibilities of his club this BOSM is the creation of the Roulette app, which keeps track of the ongoing events during the fest. The app contains a virtual betting portal, where people can bet on various matches during the fest, earning rewards based on their predictions. Subhanjan remarked that the new version of the app looks more appealing and is easier to use this time around. The club is also creating a virtual treasure hunt web app, which has been inspired by the treasure hunts organized by Informalz for Oasis and APOGEE. Participants are going to be given cues via the app, directing them to specific locations on campus, where they can find other clues to advance through the event.
The club began working on the apps well before BOSM, each app having been in development for over a month. Without the responsibility of creating the registration software and the official BOSM app this year, coding club’s focus this year has shifted towards making the fest more entertaining.
Subhanjan expressed that the club has grown significantly in its creativity and inventiveness in recent years. This has enabled them to implement several new and innovative ideas out from their standard set of tasks. He said that this has made their work more enjoyable and given them the opportunity to further enhance their skills.
He described his experience as coordinator as being novel and interesting, as his duties have moved from extensive coding to now allocating work to his juniors and managing the club as a whole. Although he admitted that he enjoys the former more, he appreciates the unique experience the role of leader has provided him with.
As a concluding remark, he urged all BITSians to be a part of BOSM and “enjoy it to the fullest”, saying that they have dedicated their efforts to making the fest more engaging and special for the people.
