Coding Club

With less than a week to go for Oasis and two pre-fest events already scheduled, the Coordinator of the Coding Club, Aryaman Chauhan, took time out of his busy schedule and sat down with the Oasis English Press to talk about the club’s work for Oasis.

For Oasis 2022, the Coding Club will be hosting three events—two pre-fest and one during. The pre-fest events include an online Hackathon called Hack Your Way and a VFX workshop in Blender. For the fest stall, the club will showcase a VR game made by a team of only seven people in their second and third years. Aryaman mentioned that he loved the theme of Oasis this time around and how well it allowed them to incorporate their ideas into the game and gave them more creative freedom than usual. He claimed that for the 50th edition of Oasis, the team went all out and one-upped all their previous works which were just non-interactive VR experiences. He said the team has made a full-fledged FPS game involving a variety of different levels with their own themes. Trying not to reveal too much, he suggested playing the game and finding out the club’s own theme for it.

He stated that the club started working for Oasis around September. The members worked in Unity and Blender for game development. He shared that despite a new type of VR experience this time, the workload had not increased for the club members thanks to an efficient load division. Aryaman recalled the difficulty faced by the Blender team this year—having to handle the VFX workshop for Oasis, which used to be done in Adobe Premiere Pro or After Effects, they had to juggle both the workshop and game development.

When asked about his experience as a coordinator, Aryaman said that he had a great time being the coordinator and that it was a good learning experience, albeit one that came with many ups and downs. He shared that just this year, a sponsor had given the club an entire event to handle but backed off at the last moment, when things were already prepared, due to issues on their side. Despite huge setbacks like this, he added that the club members remained positive. In conclusion, he asked the readers to give the coding club and its events a try.
