With Oasis right around the corner, the Oasis English Press caught up with Arsh Kumar, the Coordinator of Comedy Hub (ComHub), for a conversation about their preparations for the upcoming fest.
Arsh explained that the club is organising two events for Oasis: a stand-up show, and “BITS Got Latent”, with the former being a staple. ComHub aims to keep up with whatever is popular, and switch up their other events every fest. He elaborated that for the stand-up show, the club had been practicing everyday to ensure that the performing members give an act to remember. This year, they had also attempted to incorporate sketch comedy into their bits. He stated that BITS Got Latent had seen great responses in the past, with participants including BITSians, staff members, and outstation visitors. Arsh commented that brainstorming ideas is highly enjoyable for them, as members try their best to come up with ideas, with their mission being to spread laughs throughout the institution.
When asked about the challenges they faced, he explained that a constant concern is ensuring that the newly recruited first years are made stage-ready. High efforts are required on the older members’ end to get them prepared for their performances. Explaining the timeline followed by the club, Arsh stated that the first years started writing their sets right after BOSM, and the seniors started polishing it up a few weeks ago. He added that he has his own set to write, and often struggled to find time between the formalities and paperwork required to organise the events.
Arsh assured that his experience as coordinator has been great, aided by the fact that the StuCCA has been very supportive of ComHub’s endeavours. On a parting note, he thanked the GBM for enjoying their events, ensuring that no seat remained unfilled in the auditorium when they held their show, and requested for them to continue to show the club the same kind of support.
