The Oasis English Press sat down with Nupur Saxena, the Oasis Coordinator of the Creative Activities Club (CrAC), to learn more about the workings of the club and their role in the upcoming fest.
Nupur started by explaining that the major pre-fest work of the club is painting the OASIS letters, which are placed in front of the clock tower. During the fest, they would conduct three events—Splash, Canvas Street, and Graffiti Room. She explained that Splash would be a face-painting event that would take place on Day Two at Rotunda. Their other event, Graffiti Room, would feature a room in FD-II covered with black chart paper where graffiti enthusiasts could freely express themselves using the spray paint provided.
CrAC also planned to set up a ‘completely do-it-yourself’ stall this year. It would feature new events such as mini canvas painting, pendulum art, and fluid painting, along with their usual painting of cups and tote bags.
Elaborating on their pre-fest work, Nupur explained that CrAC had started the ideation for the letters alongside BOSM, nearly two months before Oasis. She remarked that with her experience of two years, CrAC was able to maintain the standards of the preceding years’ work while presenting fresh new ideas. She stated that they were also working on a samurai structure to incorporate the theme of the fest in their display.
Addressing the status of their work, Nupur claimed that only about 50 per cent of it had been completed at the time of the interview. She planned to extend working hours in the week before the fest, owing to the time crunch.
Talking about her experience as a coordinator, she stated that it was hectic. She added that she had immense appreciation for her juniors and team, who had been committed to their work and had made the whole process easier for her. Aside from the budget cuts and time constraints, she remarked that the process had been smooth with no major hurdles till now.
She encouraged BITSians to explore their artistic passion through CrAC’s events, to have fun, and to appreciate the time and effort they had put into preparing them.
