The BOSM English Press sat down with Swayam Loya—a left-arm orthodox spinner and the BITS cricket team Captain—to clock their preparations ahead of BOSM 2025.
Swayam began by stating that the team practised for three hours every evening in the cricket ground near MedC. He remarked that the practice sessions had been steady and intense, as they often extended beyond midnight as and when required. Swayam was also deeply appreciative of the team coach, Mr Akram. He added that seven new players had been recruited in the team this semester, and that he was glad about the consistency and enthusiasm maintained by the new members.
He further went on to talk about the various challenges the team faced this season. Heavy rains in the past month was the major setback which hindered practice sessions quite often, he noted. Additionally, Swayam regretted the absence of senior members of the team from the practice sessions, as they had been pre-occupied by internship and placement preparations.
He also called out the administration for issues relating to the proper functioning of floodlights, and tractor marks left on the ground, the latter of which would often wound players while running. He highlighted his own recent injury caused by the same, leading to him being off practice for a week.
Swayam said that until last year, the cricketing event at BOSM had been held as a knockout T-20 series amongst sixteen teams. This year, according to him, the admin hoped to host a tournament format to be played amongst a smaller number of teams. He noted that strong competition was expected from teams from O.P. Jindal Global University and Delhi University colleges such as Sri Venkateswara.
He noted that the team had been getting eliminated in the semi-finals for the last two years but expressed his wish for them to play the finals this time. As a closing remark, he urged the GBM to watch the cricket matches at BOSM and support the home team in large numbers.
