The APOGEE English Press interviewed Neeharika Maram, the APOGEE Coordinator of the Cubing Club, to gain insight into their work for the upcoming fest.
Neeharika started off by explaining the club’s activities outside the fest. She said that they regularly met to discuss and teach new methods to solve cubes, as well as sent teams to various cubing events in other colleges.
She mentioned that they would be organising four events this APOGEE, including a speed-cubing contest, a puzzling quiz, a mosaic, and for the first time, they would set up a stall.
At the stall, people would be able to play various games, and the best contestant would win a cash-prize. These games would include guessing countries from Rubik’s Cube replicas of their flags and unscrambling an image-based puzzle. Additionally, there would be a game wherein the player would have to correctly estimate the passage of ten seconds while blindfolded, and a game where the participant would need to match colours across a Rubik’s Cube game board against an opponent to win.
Talking about the mosaic, Neeharika said that building it generally took about three hours, with around 25 people working on it. She also talked about additional innovations they had been working on, like angled cubes for dual images, which might not have been feasible for the current edition of the fest, but was something they would continue to work on.
Neeharika said that her experience as a Coordinator had been pleasant, and noted that everyone involved had been very cooperative. Concluding the interview, she urged the general BITSian to come and check out the club’s stall and share the excitement, assuring them that it would be a lot of fun.
