Dance Club (DC) has a reputation of being one of the more demanding clubs on campus. ‘When you compete with some of the best dance troupes in the Indian circuit, hard work and professionalism is a must’, says Coordinator Samarth Shah, a strict disciplinarian himself. Their practice of bringing professionals from the international circuit as judges has resulted in DC having a solid reputation outside Pilani as well.
While dancing is a challenging practice in itself, setting up dances with themes in mind is daunting, at the very least. However, an all encompassing theme -“realms of fiction” has allowed the creative think-tank to come up with interesting ideas for the fest. They plan to portray a fusion of three dance forms – contemporary, folk, and semi-western for the inauguration ceremony. DC will also be organizing the regulars, Desert Duel and Razzmatazz, and participating in Street Dance, organized by the Department of Theatre.
A rather exclusive art form, dance is reserved for the talented; majority of the attendees cannot participate in it. However, with an ‘open stage’ concept planned for this year, DC hopes to involve more people in its events. With a team of passionate youngsters raring to showcase their talent, and disciplined leaders guiding them, one hopes that DC lives up to expectations.
