The Oasis English Press sat down with Pranav Deshpande, the StuCCAn of the Department of Art, Design and Publicity (ADP), to talk about the department’s work in Oasis ‘25.
He explained that ADP had four verticals: Painting, Structures, Publicity, and Media. Like the name suggested, Painting made backdrops for the fest – four panels to be placed inside the Main Auditorium and three panels to be placed outside it. Structures handcrafted 3D models and took care of the decorations done all around campus which made the campus look lively and festive. The team in Publicity made posters, Instagram reels, and the banners and standees that were put around on campus. In Media, the team was in charge of collaborating with media teams like coverage partners and influencers.
The theme of Oasis was decided by ADP and DVM (Department of Visual Media) in collaboration. The theme played a major role in ADP’s work before the fest as the art designs revolved around the theme of the fest. Pranav added that their work for Oasis began in June when they made brochures for Oasis and reached out to sponsors. He mentioned that one of the challenges faced by them this year was the timeline. Since Oasis was after Diwali break, there had been a challenge of completing their work in less time compared to the previous years.
Pranav explained that the StuCCA was a committee which decided everything that Oasis comprises. As a StuCCAn, he sat in on meetings called ‘Event-Pitching Meets’ (EPMs). In these meetings, the clubs and departments presented their ideas, budgets, and revenue projections. He said that a part of being a StuCCAn was deciding how conceivable or interesting those ideas were and to make sure there were new events every year and to decide which events had become redundant. They also coordinated the work within major departments while keeping the deadlines of each department in mind.
When asked about his experience as a StuCCAn so far, Pranav said it has been ‘really amazing’. He said that he had met and spoken to new kinds of people who he could not have interacted with otherwise and that in itself has been a really fun experience. According to him, he was just a ‘cog in the wheel’ of a large organisation. He would like everyone to know that a lot of work and time went into putting together a fest as major as Oasis and to make it a good experience for everyone involved.
