Department of Controls

At the end of a heated conversation on the phone, Mudit Marda glances at his busy, working juniors, relaxes, and then joins us for a talk.

“The work is coming along pretty well”, says Mudit. “Understandably, there are roadblocks in each step of the process. We are facing some difficulties when it comes to scheduling. The unavailability of VK Lawns and FD-1 has placed constraints on room and stall allotments. We hope to get this sorted out as soon as possible.”

Controls has been trying to revamp the manner in which they gather scores from judges. With support from DVM, an online portal is being set up for the same. Some internal restructuring has taken place as well. A couple of job streams have been merged in order to increase efficiency.

The incredible closeness of Oasis to the mid-semester exams has increased the burden on all departments. However, Mudit feels that this is not going to affect the quality of their work. To quote the ardent Krishna Das fan, “Things have been moving smoothly from our end. We are confident that all creases will be ironed out.”

As a member of the StuCCA, his work involves playing a role in making major decisions regarding the fest and serving as the head of his department. “It’s very hard to summarize what our department does. Every member of the department is involved in different things. This ranges from handling the registrations at the beginning of the fest to distributing prize money and certificates after it. Oh, and of course, Travels – the best job stream ever!”, he says with a grin. “Holding everything together has been tiring. With everyone’s help and support, the load has reduced to a great extent.”

Scheduling constitutes an integral part of their work. As much as they try to make the best schedule possible, glitches during the fest lead to changes. Accommodating close to eighty events is a massive undertaking. He hopes that everyone keeps this is mind and co-operates accordingly.

Several theme based events will be taking place during Oasis. For example, Amish Tripathi, the author of the Shiva Trilogy will be addressing the crowd at the inauguration ceremony. “We hope to make this year’s Oasis a mystical experience”, reflects Mudit.

Being the StuCCAn of a major department is not an easy task by any means. As one can see, Mudit has been on his toes for past semester. He is confident of their efforts paying off. “Things definitely look a lot different this year. The best advice I can give you is to attend and participate in as many events possible”, he adds, as he walks back to join the rest of his department.
