Amidst the preparations for Oasis ‘24, Jaiaditya Singh, the StuCCAn of the Department of Controls, spared some time from his busy schedule to discuss the role they play during the fest.
Jaiditya shared that their work revolves around heading the logistics and operations for the fest and creating an interface between the institute and various clubs and departments. He stated that their work was divided into multiple verticals — travels, requisitions, judging of sheets, and scheduling. He explained that while creating the schedule for the fest, they had taken into account the dates of other college fests. He opined that despite Oasis being so close to Diwali, he did not expect the number of attendees to be affected deeply.
When asked about their preparations for the fest, Jaiditya stated that the department had started working as soon as APOGEE ‘23 had ended. However, owing to the uncertainty regarding the actual occurrence of the fest, their preparations had come to a halt. He further mentioned that the time crunch had affected their recruitments this year and that allocating time for interactions had been difficult. Jaiditya detailed that their work was heavily dependent on other clubs and departments and that they were on schedule with their preparation. He noted that though Controls had faced some internal scheduling conflicts amongst the juniors, they were resolved by the respective heads of verticals within the department. He highlighted that despite everything the department had pulled through as a team.
Talking about his experience as a part of the StuCCA, Jaiditya remarked that maintaining transparency is something they took ‘very seriously’, especially when it came to the budgeting controversy surrounding Oasis this year. He also praised his fellow StuCCAns, naming them individually and placing emphasis on their work ethic. When asked about the discord between different clubs pitching for their events, Jaiditya stated that the Students’ Union had always encouraged healthy competition and that this ensured the quality of the fest was maintained.
On a concluding note, Jaiditya expressed that the events hosted are often overshadowed by the Prof Shows that take place, ‘even though a lot of effort goes into their planning and execution’. He then encouraged the student body to attend the fest, adding that it was the second-largest cultural fest in Asia ‘for a reason’.
