Department of Controls, BOSM

As preparations for the much-anticipated BITS Open Sports Meet are underway, the athletes are not the only ones working nights and days. The CoSSAcn for the Department of Controls, BOSM (BoCo) shared his department’s critical role in ensuring the smooth functioning of the fest.

BoCo links all the clubs, departments, and sports teams involved in BOSM. With a wide array of job streams, they start working about a month prior to the fest. Ayush explained that some of their major work included scheduling matches, handling prize money, and inventory management. BoCo is also responsible for the inauguration of the fest. From hosting to collaborating with all clubs and departments taking part in the ceremony, they oversee all its aspects.

Contrary to their love for bananas, BoCo cannot be seen doing any ‘monkey business’ as they are the regulating body of the five-day fest, the CoSSAcn joked. Ayush explained that during the fest the department was dynamically making match fixtures along with handling the proper execution of non-sporting events. He further mentioned that the department was responsible for managing any disputes that arose during the fest.

When asked about why Ayush decided to run for the post of CoSSAcn of the department, he stated that he had been observing all the previous CoSSAcns of the department since 2018, and was impressed by how they handled so many dynamic components at once. This motivated him to do the same.

Inquiring about the challenges encountered by the department, Ayush elaborated that the uncertainty surrounding the President’s arrival dates for the convocation resulted in late confirmation of the BOSM dates. This delay led to an intense surge of last-minute tasks and significantly increased the pressure on the department.

In conclusion, despite the considerable challenges of coordinating with numerous contacts, securing permissions, and managing on-ground conflicts, BoCo consistently found a way to enjoy the fest. Ayush was confident that exceptional teamwork fostered remarkable success, a principle that he believed BoCo exemplified to the fullest. Ayush said that he hoped to see everyone come out, support their friends in teams, and wished everyone a great time.
